Hey friend, “Don’t listen to what they say. Go see.”– Chinese Proverb I’m sharing the above quote because it really inspires me. It reminds me that others' judgements or perceptions about a place, a people, a culture, do not inform what I believe. With so much talk about unchecked social media and radical changes in our government, that proverb reminds me that what we see on our screens is not the whole truth. It reminds me to meet new people, experience new cultures, and witness new landscapes. While many think this applies to getting out of the country, I also use this to explore my own country. It's discovering thousands of unique cultures nestled within the United States, that are often unrepresented in our classrooms or media. And my hope is that sharing it today will inspire you to seek out a unique experience the next time you travel in the US. Some of my favorites have been: Cajun Food Bus Tour in Lafayette - learn about the Acadians in Louisiana Guided Tour of Ponce, Puerto Rico- learn art, culture, dance, and more. Monument Valley with a Navajo Guide - why this area is sacred to traditions and stories. That’s all. See you next week. Travel on! Tonya PS. Do you have a favorite quote? Reply and let me know!
