Thinking about camping? Here’s how we made it work

Hey Reader,

Last summer, I did something kind of wild.

I rented an RV.
Through RVShare.
With teens. For a whole week.

And here’s the shocker—we actually had fun. Like, laugh-out-loud, smores-in-pajamas, card-games-by-lantern-light fun.

No one stormed off. No one got grounded. And for once, no one was glued to their phone because…well…no service.

I’m telling you this because if camping has been on your mind for the summer—especially the kind that includes real mattresses and an escape from the chaos of overscheduled everything—RVShare might be your best friend.

They made it stupid simple to rent an RV near us (think Airbnb, but on wheels). We picked the size, style, and setup that worked for our fam, and just like that, we were off.

Yes, it’s a bit of an investment.
But so is a hotel. And with the RV? We got to:

  • Cook our own meals (hello, picky teen-proofing)
  • Camp near national parks and wake up to actual nature
  • Have a space that was all ours—no sharing walls with strangers or fighting over chargers in hotel lobbies

If you’ve been itching to escape the noise, RVShare’s got options to make it doable without selling a kidney.
You can browse their rentals right here and get a feel for what’s possible.

We made memories that still come up in conversation. (Even the “we forgot the bug spray” moment. Especially that one.)

And I’d love that for you, too.

Let me know if you have questions—I’m happy to spill all the behind-the-scenes details.

Talk soon,

Tonya

Hey Reader, So I’m mapping out the next destination guide and realized…I don’t want to decide this one alone. You’re the one planning real trips with real teens—and honestly, no one knows better what you need than you. So let’s make it fun. Will you help me pick what to focus on next? Here are the top 3 I’ve narrowed it down to: Arizona – Red rocks, desert hikes, and one unforgettable road trip route. Michigan – Small towns, freshwater beaches, and just enough outdoors to keep teens off their...

Hey there, Reader! Over the past 20 years of planning family vacations—especially the kind that involve teenagers, coolers full of snacks, and playlists on shuffle—I’ve learned that road trips offer something special. The freedom to explore, time to connect, and the chance to actually enjoy the journey. That’s why I created something new:USA Road Tripping —a resource built for families (like mine and maybe yours!) who want to hit the road without hitting a wall trying to plan it all. Here’s...

Hey friend, You ever feel like summer starts speeding up the minute school lets out? One minute you're dreaming of road trips and bonding time with your teen...
